House Of The Dragon – Season 1 review (2022)
Prequel to the story, sequel to its thrill.
The makers of GOT have brought its prequel “House of The Dragons” after many attempts of producing another part of the show.
This Game of Thrones prequel takes us back to the history of House Targaryen, around 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones.
Just like the story of Game of Thrones which was taken from George R.R. Martin’s book called “A Song of Ice and Fire”, House of the Dragons is furthermore based on “Fire & Blood”.
Although one can certainly understand the story of “House of The Dragons” without having seen the Game of Thrones series, it is only wise to go along with the directors.
This was not the first idea of producing another part of Got by the makers. However, the audience seem to enjoy the history of events rather than the future destiny of GOT characters.
The Targaryen, especially Rhaenyra Targaryen, looks very similar to Daenerys Targaryen of Game of Thrones, which makes her character more likeable from the beginning. This might also be the reason for the biases towards her, after watching the show.
Episode 1: The Heirs of The Dragon
You’ll be first introduced to the lead characters of the show i.e. The king (Viserys Targaryen), his daughter (Rhaenyra Targaryen), his brother (Daemon Targaryen), wife (Aemma Arryn), cousin (Rhaenys Targaryen) and the members of the court council. The hand (Ott Hightower) and his daughter (Alicent Hightower) are shown dear to the king and his daughter, who later turn into the primary characters of the show.
The first impression of the show might not be very appealing as it slowly intensifies scene by scene. But the true GOT fans might want to stick around as it gets better with each episode.
Episode 2. (The Rouge Prince) to Episode 5. (We light the Way):
Rhaenyra, despite being young, is shown to have courage and wisdom. Her actions turn her into a woman with a desire to rule the realm. Daemon’s intentions are not clear till the end of the fifth episode. Rather, he proves to be a cunning and savage man over time. On the other hand, Alicent learns a truth about Rhaenyra which leaves her with bitter feelings.
From Episode 6. (The Princess and The Queen) to the Finale. (The Black Queen):
Through the course of time, everyone has aged. The girls have become mothers, the king becomes grandsire, and many more interesting turns of events take place. Fate is never biased towards anyone here. One is curious to know what happens next throughout these scenarios and the plot moves forward at an appropriate pace to keep the interest of people alive.
The season finale has an unexpected twist to it which surely makes it a cliff-hanger ending.
It is being said that the story has not ended, and the best is yet to come. However, if it were to be the last episode, it would stunt everyone just like a perfect climax.
Cast:
-
Paddy Considine – Viserys Targaryen (the king).
-
Milly Alcock- Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (the young).
-
Matt Smith- Daemon Targaryen.
-
Emily Carey- Alicent Hightower (the young).
-

-
Rhys Ifans- Ott Hightower (the Hand).
-
Emmay D’Arcy – Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen
-

The critics have claimed that the show portrays excessive show of incest which makes the Targaryen family tree insensible. Although the writers of the show are simply putting out the story from the books out on the screen, it does not seem to agree with a lot of people.
House of the Dragon Season 2 is soon said to be come. However, its release date is not yet declared. Till the time the fans need to hope for an even better season and more such sequels and prequels to come.
